Great Food at Southern Recipes Cafe
This weekend I had chance to try the Southern Recipes Cafe in Richardson Texas. It has basic decor with great tasting Home Cooking. I had the Chicken Fried Steak which was one of the best I have ever eaten in the area for only $7.49. It came with 2 vegetables, salad , and a roll. I Highly recommend this cafe and such a great treat to get away from all the chain restaurants, which all taste the same to me. The chains seem to make the meal overly salty and a grainy, chewy, cheap meat.
Southern Recipes Cafe puts them all to shame with a delicious meal.
This was my meal of Chicken Fried Steak, mash potatoes and Fried Okra. Really was enough to share, but it was so good I had to eat it all.

Hooray Hatch Green Chili
The time of year is here to re-stock on Hatch Chilies. I have no idea why Hatch Peppers from New Mexico are the best tasting but they are. Last year I only bought a few, this year I got a case and a half roasted to hopefully last the year. They come in hot and mild, I like the hot.

I like to cook but I don't do it often. I just find it hard to cook for one so don't take the time to do it. However, I could not help it and had to make up some sauce, salsa and chili rellenos.
The sauce is made of onion, flour, garlic, hot hatch peppers, chicken broth and salt.
All you need to make great salsa is what is pictured below and water. Stew in a pot for about 30 minutes. Strain the solids and put in a blender. Add about half of the left over liquid and lime juice and blend again. Salt to taste. Chill for at least an hour, over night if possible.
Stuff the peppers with cheese
Batter them up with a corn meal blend and fry.

Add the sauce, cheese chips, tortillas and enjoy.

Grampa's Catfish House
STILL EATING HALE AND HEARTY
I made it to another local favorite tonight to try some farm-raised Arkansas Catfish at Grampa’s Catfish House. Fantastic. Pictured is a large order. If you can believe it they have an all you can eat for a few dollars more. I did not think anyone could eat more than was served to me, but tables all around me were ordering more. This was enough for me to split with someone, but I am proud to say I was able to eat all the fish and then roll myself out the door. The staff was extra nice with a home town feel, but I did get some looks when the food came to me and I took a picture. I think they thought I was some crazy guy and hey, they may be right

Whole Hog Cafe
Eating hale and hearty!
This week I am in Little Rock Arkansas. I am here for work and will not have the time to do the tourist thing, but I wanted to at least try one local favorite place to eat. Wow, all I can say is I am so glad I did. I ate at the Whole Hog Café for some Arkansas Awarding winning Barbeque.
Trophies, Ribbons, and Certificates cover the walls and window ledges.
